Call For Artists

Donate art to benefit Fount of Mercy’s emerging children’s art project ‘Focus on Change’ in Uganda.

What: Focus on Change is looking for artists of all mediums to donate pieces of work to be sold in various Fount of Mercy events to benefit it’s summer 2011 photo program. Pieces should ideally reflect Africa in some way, Uganda specific not necessary. Artists may seek inspiration from their own sources, readings, or imagination, or refer to images provided and written by Fount of Mercy. Below is a list of volunteer blogs, and photo journals while traveling with Fount of Mercy in Uganda for reference.

And of course please check out Fount of Mercy’s site to learn more about our work.

Why Donate?: Focus on Change wants to help raise global awareness about the concerns & goals of Fount of Mercy, via the artistic world while simultaneously impacting and giving vocational and educational development to it’s students in Uganda. Donation of artwork will not only help provide financially for students but also create immediate involvement in the program from the participant, as well as create a larger network of involvement and interest. Being an artist in Uganda is a craft that can provide income.

How Will My Art Be Used?: Artwork will be displayed within gallery, or organized space all in reference to Fount of Mercy. Proceeds will benefit the Focus on Change project which is working to empower students in Uganda through art. 100% of the proceeds from your artwork will go into this program.

Focus on Change is a project of Fount of Mercy that exposes vulnerable children in Africa to the power of art, empowering their voice and emotional development.

We encourage artists to see the change that their art can make in the lives of vulnerable children desperate for an opportunity to create.

Focus on Change collaborates to tell the story of orphans, vulnerable children and caregivers by giving those with a story a venue for their voice.

The idea of Focus on Change emerged after I held an impromptu photo lesson with some of the children at ORM.  We talked about photography and composing an image.  Then we quickly headed out individually with 6 students to shoot together and then discuss the images we liked the most. It was amazing to know that i was allowing a child in Africa to do something they have never experienced before, and may never would in their life. It was exciting, insightful and rewarding.  I was quickly amazed by what i was seeing created by these impromptu students of mine. The three photos above and the main larger photo were taken by some of the students.
